Let's know about bacterial and viral disease of rice and their management.
Are you seeking for the solution of bacterial and viral disease in your paddy fields๐ค๐ค?? .....Increase production of paddy in your field by reading ๐ฏ ๐ฏ๐ฏ solution in this blog
Bacterial disease
1. Bacterial blight (xanthomas oryzae)
2. Bacterial leaf streak ( xanthomas oryzae)
Viral disease
3. Rice grassy stunt
4. Rice ragged stunt
5. Tungro disease of rice
1. Bacterial blight
This disease is cause by the active of bacteria.Yellow - orange stripes can be seen on leaf blades or leaf tips. As shown in fig. On older plants, lesions usually develops as water-soaked. Slowly these infection can be seen towards the leaf base. Early in the morning bacterial ooze shine like milky few drop.
Management
- Plant resistant variety.
- Use balance amount of plant nutrition, specially nitrogenous fertilizer. Nitrogenous fertilizer should be use in split dose.
- Proper drainage system should be maintain in field and nursary.
- Excessive water should not be accumulated in field for longer periods of time.
- In case of severe infection coppor base fungicide can be use to control disease.
- Systemic fungicide can also be used in heavely infected field.
2. Bacterial leaf streak
Infected leaf show browning and drying of leaves. Under Siever condition it can reduce grain weight due to loss of photosynthetic area. This is caused due to bacterial infections. This disease is similar to bacterial blight.
Management
- Plant resistant variety.
- Treat seed with hot water.
- Keep field clean, weed should be removed timely.
3. Rice grassy stunt
This disease cause excessive tillering, stunted growth of plants, very upright growth of plants, yellowish green leaves that are short and narrow than normal, grassy and rosette appearance of plants.
Management
- Use resistant variety.
- Use insecticide to control brown plant hopper.
- Plough the field after harvest to remove infected stubbles from field.
4. Rice ragged stunt
White to dark brown veins appearing on leaves blades and sheaths. Twisted, malformations flag leaves that shortened at booting stage. Delay in flowering.Management
- Use resistant variety to brown plant hopper.
- Infected plants should be immediately remove from field.
- Practice synchronous planting.
- Plough infected stubbles under the field after harvest to reduce the virus source.
5. Tungro
It is caused by the combination of two viruses. It is transmitted by leafhoppers. It causes leaf discoloration, stunted, growth, reduces tiller number and sterile or partially filled grains.
Management
- Plant resistant variety like IR36 and IR50.
- Use insecticide to control leafhoppers.
- Practice synchronous planting with surrounding farms.
Fungal disease will be discussed in upcoming blog .
